Apple Phone Scam Being Reported by Local Area Residents

If you own an iPhone, beware of fraudulent callers posing as AppleCare specialists.

Several Hudson Valley residents claimed they've been contacted by men with Indian accents claiming they're from AppleCare. The Danbury Daily Voice is reporting that the scammers have been telling residents to steer clear of Apple devices because they were being hacked.

The AppleCare number, if it's legit, will be displayed on the caller ID, but the scammers are telling people to call 888-629-7222 instead. The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service have released official alerts regarding the rash of fraudulent phone calls claiming to be from AppleCare.

If you receive a call from a scammer pretending to be from AppleCare, ask them to verify their identity. Apple support will never ask you for any confidential information including your Apple ID. If you suspect a creepy individual is scamming you, hang up and call Apple Support at 1-800-275-2273.
