The reality of a gun buy-back program is that it pretty much works. Sad, but true. So now's your chance.

Getting guns off the streets in any way, shape, or form can only be a good thing. So with that in mind I want to share this:

According to a press release, the New Haven Police Department is gearing up for a "no questions asked" gun buy-back event Saturday, Dec. 10 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the New Haven Police Academy located at 710 Sherman Parkway.

All guns have to be surrendered unloaded in clear plastic bags, and the person dropping off the gun will not be charged with illegal possession of that specific firearm. Furthermore, no questions will be asked and no identification will be required -- so the identity of all individuals will remain anonymous.

Knowing that they have to sweeten the pot if you will, people will get  American Express or Stop and Shop gift cards in varying amounts based on the weapon they surrender. Here's how it breaks down:

  • $25 - Single and double-shot (Derringer style) Handguns
  • $50 - Rifles and Shotguns
  • $100 - Pistol and Revolver Handguns
  • $200 - Assualt Weapons (to be determined by NHPD)

I say, do whatever it takes to keep our kids and the community safe.
