A decision has been reached within the New Milford Board of Education to close the John Pettibone Elementary School at the end of the 2014-15 year.

A vote of 5-4 was reached on Wednesday evening to close the school, which will, as a result, reconfigure the grades and redistrict the town of New Milford's students.

It looks like the third grade will be relocated to Sarah Noble School and the sixth grade will be moved from Sarah Noble to Schaghticoke Middle School. Kindergarten though second grade will be split up between Hill & Plain and Northville Elementary Schools.

The decision to close Pettibone comes after evaluation of effective space use and a declining student population in New Milford.
