2/3 of the Earth make be covered in water, but sadly severe drought conditions prevail in many parts of the country, including a large portion of Connecticut.

Please pay attention people. There is even more proof that we are in bad way here in Connecticut in regards to drought conditions.

I've been covering this since August when I wrote about the drought conditions possibly causing tree issues in Connecticut. Over the past three months it hasn't gotten any better.

Now there is new information that Connecticut is experiencing the worst drought since 2002. The National Drought Mitigation Center released its updated drought monitor on Nov. 10 and it's pretty scary! The map shows that the western two-thirds of Connecticut is in a severe drought while the eastern portion is in a moderate drought.

According to the National Weather Service the drought conditions were prevalent starting in March of 2016 and have mostly continued.

Not that I'm a fan of snow at all, but I guess we should all be keeping our fingers crossed for a good old fashioned snowy Winter. The Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting a mild but snowy 2016-2017 for the northern tier of the U.S.

However, don't count on it. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, NOAA, says this about the drought:

New England will see a mixed bag, with improvement in the western parts and persistence to the east.

Stop running the faucet while you brush your teeth, fix that leaky toilet and the dripping sink. Do whatever you can to conserve water. Mother Earth thanks you.
