Vigilance in every way about our bodies is so very important.

I'm a big believer that no one knows my body better than I do. I sure don't want to be a hypochondriac, always believing the worst, but I do listen when my body talks. So if that means I make an extra trip to my doctor, so be it.

Even if you are diligent about doing self breast exams. Even if you go annually for a mammogram, if something feels "off" in your body, you should address it.

A new study published in livescience.com, reveals that a lump is not always the first sign of breast cancer. English researchers found that one in six women eventually diagnosed with breast cancer first saw a doctor because of a symptom other than a lump.

Study leader Monica Koo, a doctoral candidate at University College London, said in a statement published in livescience.com

It's crucial that women are aware that a lump is not the only sign of breast cancer. If they are worried about any breast symptoms, the best thing to do is to get it checked by a doctor as soon as possible.

The study says some of those symptoms included breast pain and abnormalities in the breast skin or nipple. A small number of women reported symptoms not related to the breast, including a lump in the armpit and back pain.

My theory is if you feel something, anything that feels amiss, get in touch with your doctor. I know far to many people that didn't listen to their body, and paid the ultimate price.
