The New York Egg Cream is so easy to make, and so good that it amazes me that they're not made everywhere. There are no eggs involved, not even cream! But there are three very specific ingredients, and you cannot deviate. Once you have one, you will be hooked. Come on into my bar, and let me show you how to make one.

Here's the recipe for a real, authentic, this is the good stuff, New York Egg Cream!

  • Cold Seltzer Water (not club soda, not sparkling water)
  • Whole Milk (not skim, not 2%, splurge here, you won't be using a lot and believe me, it's worth it)
  • Fox's U-bet Chocolate (or Vanilla) Syrup, get the kosher type which is available during Passover. Stock up on it, you'll be happy that it's in your pantry!

Chilling the glass really helps. I put ice cubes in it and let it sit for a few minutes. That gets the chill on. Take the ice cubes out and your glass is chilled. Then pour 2 fingers of milk in the glass (put your index and middle finger around the bottom of the glass, that's a 2 finger measurement). Add cold seltzer to about a half an inch from the top. It may spill over a bit, go with it! Then add 2 fingers of the syrup and stir gently with a spoon, you don't want to break up that wonderful foam. Drink! How awesome is that? Fuhgeddaboudit!
