Legendary Pitcher Dwight ‘Doc’ Gooden Is Set to Speak in Danbury

Dwight "Doc" Gooden, who's rated the second best pitcher in New York Mets history behind Tom Seaver, will be in Danbury this Friday, June 9.

According to sportrzedge.com., Mets pitching legend, Doc Gooden is scheduled to be the guest speaker at the Danbury Westerners 23rd Annual celebrity breakfast at the Amber Room Colonnade this Friday morning beginning at 7:30 am.

In 1984, at the age of 19, Gooden made his major league pitching debut with the Mets where his 98 mph fastball made him one of the most dominate pitchers in baseball from 1984 through 1991. Doc was a four-time All Star, the National League Rookie of the Year, and in 1985, won the National League Cy Young Award with a 24-4 record and a league leading 1.54 ERA. Doc was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 2010.

Because our family shared Mets season tickets from '84 through the '89 season, I'll never forget those games when Doc was on the mound. It was pitching mastery at its very best. One of the most memorable moments during our Mets season ticket days was a game against the Phillies on April 19, 1989 when we witnessed Daryl Strawberry, Kevin McReynolds, and Keith Hernandez hit back to back to back home runs.
