I can remember these the holiday season in Newtown when I was a kid. It was always very festive on Main Street around the area with the Edmond Town Hall, the Cyrenius H. Booth Library, and all the historical houses. This year is no different, the festivities will continue.

According to the  News Times, Newtown will continue the tradition of the Holiday Festival for the 30th year. With the festival comes a performance of "The Nutcracker," a trolley tour of historic Newtown (narrated), a decorated tree auction, a gingerbread house decorating contest (fun!), and an old-fashioned holiday tea.

I know the holiday tea has been a popular activity in the past, because my husband has volunteered in previous years to help out. It takes place in the Alexandra Room of the Edmond Town Hall.

Here are some of the things you can expect at the holiday tea:

  • Mulled Cider
  • Tea
  • Scones
  • Home-baked Tea Bread

Newtown Savings Bank has been handling the old-fashioned holiday tea for years. Tanya Truax, director of public relations at Newtown Savings Bank, told the News Times just how devoted the volunteers are,

“The tea has been a Newtown Savings Bank fixture at the festival,” said Tanya Truax, director of public relations at Newtown Savings Bank. “We have volunteers who work in shifts who bring their families and children and bake the bread in their homes.”

In addition to the returning favorites, the festival will also have a train ride replicating the The Polar Express.

Proceeds from the Holiday Festival will go towards Newtown Youth and Family Services.

Tickets are $25 for a family of four. Separate tickets may also be purchased; they are $12 for adults and $5 for kids.

The festival is Sunday, December 6 and will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

For more information or to purchase tickets you can visit Newtown Youth and Family Services.
