Last week, the Putnam County Sheriff's Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU), arrested a New York City man in Mahopac.

According to a press release, at 11:30 PM on Thursday (October 13) a deputy from Putnam County pulled over 37-year-old Julio A. Garcia of Coral Reef Queens on Route 6N in Mahopac. During the traffic stop, it was discovered that Garcia was driving outside of the restricted area that his conditional license allowed. The restriction on his license stemmed from a previous charge of driving while impaired by alcohol.

Later in the investigation, deputies allegedly found 15 plastic bags containing cocaine, and another bag containing MDMA, a version of Ecstasy. A loaded .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol was found in the vehicle as well. Garcia was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the third degree with the intent to sell, criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, as well as several equipment violations on his car.

This isn't Mr. Garcia's first run in with the NEU. He was arrested in 2014 on similar charges, and plead guilty for a reduced misdemeanor charge.

Julio Garcia was arraigned in the Carmel Town Justice Court, and then moved to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail.
