Pet Peeves. First of all, what does it mean? Wikipedia, today's Webster's Dictionary, describes it as,

a minor annoyance that an individual identifies as particularly annoying to themself, to a greater degree than others may find.

Is "themself" a word? It's got a red line under it as I'm typing this, so I don't think so, and at the moment, I don't care enough to check. I could take this on a whole different tangent, and say that maybe that is not a pet peeve of mine, but spelling and grammar are indeed on my pet peeve list. I think it's because the rest of this blog is shinier than that for me.

I actually find the phrase "Pet Peeve" particularly annoying. I also find Wikipedia somewhat annoying, because it has these little edit buttons that you can touch and edit the definitions yourself. For example, I could edit the term "Pet Peeve" to mean something, like, oh, I don't know, something like a "Pet peeve is a fruit that grows in the rain forest and only eaten by lobsters." What fun! We could never edit Webster's Dictionary.

But, I digress. Let me get into one particularly annoying pet peeve of mine. Or is that redundant? Ok, let's say this then. It is in my top 10. I was at the check-out counter of a department store. One of my items was a birthday card. The cashier picked up the card to scan it and then opened the card, read it, and told me that it was adorable. Well, thank you! But I know that already. That's why I brought it to you to pay for it.

As she continued ringing the items, she looked at my allergy medication and asked me if it worked. This is where I think to myself; A, If it didn't, why would I be buying it? And B, If this is the first time I am purchasing it, how do I know if it works?

This is where the sarcastic side of me picks up, and I think thoughts like, "I'm going to put this stuff in the car, come back inside the store, put a whole bunch of weird stuff in my shopping cart, find this same cashier and wait for the comments." Use your imagination! How much fun would that be?

By the way, Pam, your birthday card is adorable.
