Arrested back in March on grand larceny and fraud charges, and fired from her position, the former CEO of the Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce reached a plea deal in court on Tuesday.

According to tapinto.net, Erin Meagher, the former CEO of the Mahopac-Carmel Chamber of Commerce pleaded guilty to a reduced charge Tuesday in Carmel Town Court.

Meagher had been accused of three different charges, but chose to plead guilty to a lesser charge of misdemeanor petty larceny, admitting that she used the Chamber's debit card to make personal purchases totaling close to $3,000.

What started out as a war of words prior to her arrest -- she claimed the charges were a smear campaign based on her political affiliation and her youth -- ended Tuesday night with Meagher's plea.

As part of the deal to keep her from doing prison time, Meagher must complete 100 hours of community service with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department’s Alternative to Incarceration Program. She must also make restitution in the amount of $2,809.98.

The entire plea deal must be complete within a year, and she must stay out of any trouble during that period, or the terms of the agreement could be void and the original charges restored. She must also give up any unemployment or unemployment claims she made as a result of her termination.

Meagher currently resides in Brewster, she is a trustee on the Brewster Village Board, and vice president of the Putnam County Industrial Development Agency. She was the second Mahopac community leader to be accused of embezzlement in the last year. The treasurer of the Mahopac Fire Department pleaded guilty in March to fixing the books and stealing $5.6 million over more than a decade.
