I am am animal lover and advocate. Not to get too philosophical here but I believe that we were all put on this planet for a reason. I feel that we are supposed to be in this together. To me, that definitely includes animals.

I am especially awe-inspired with the K9 unit of police departments. These dogs are amazing in what they do. Meticulously trained and true partners to their human counterpart officers. Just this past Sunday, another amazing K9 story emerged involving a missing 89 year old woman from Woodbury, CT who suffers from Alzheimer’s.

Connecticut State Police arrived with their K9 unit, a German Shepherd, along with members of the Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department. The towns reverse 911 system alerted residents of the situation, but after almost three hours the elderly woman was still missing. It was time to bring in TFC Kerry Halligan and her K9 partner, a Bloodhound named Texas. Forty minutes later, the confused woman was found in a thick woodsy area about a quarter of a mile from her home. She was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital to be evaluated.

I shudder to think what would have happened if this K9 team had not been called upon. Texas was able to follow the scent that led to the rescue.

The true definition of teamwork is right there!

Next time someone tells you that your pet is just a pet, here’s one story that proves how remarkable animals truly are. Texas did something that a human being could not do and together with partner Kerry Halligan, they were able to rescue an elderly woman who needed their help.
