Earlier today the US Trademark Office cancelled the trademark of the long standing football team, The Washington Redskins.

For as far back as I can remember, but more prevalent today, the name of the football team has been under a lot of heat because some people believe the term Redskin is a racial slur.

Redskins owner Dan Snyder has said time and time again that he will not change the name of Washington's football team, no matter what happens. You have to admit with this decision made by the US Trademark Office today, that it will be quite difficult for Mr Snyder to stand by that statement.

At this point, anyone could go out and print up their own T-Shirts promoting the Redskins and sell them for whatever they want. Maybe not so much around CT and NY, but as you head down to the DC area, this could become a problem for the Skins brand.

So, have we gone too far with this "political correctness"?  What about the Cleveland Indians baseball team? Is that offensive too? Whenever I think of the name Redskins I think of a warrior and a tough group of men, nothing offensive at all. But what do I know? I'm just your typical football fan looking forward to another great season starting this fall.

But aren't we all just your typical football fans?  I think there's A LOT more important things going on in the world today for the government to focus on... Iraq, Benghazi, that missing 777, the IRS Scandal and the 5 released men from Guantanamo Bay....Just saying.
