It's been a while since I mentioned Thor, the Bobcat who was hit by a car and rescued by Big Cat Rescue in Florida. I followed his story almost from the moment of the accident. Big Cat Rescue is amazing at keeping their followers informed. So much so, that you feel like you are a part of their organization and you can become quite attached to the big cats there.

Thor had all kinds of injuries which required different specialists and surgeries. His biggest injuries were his jaw, which was broken in two places, his shoulder and his eye. Two months of rehabilitation at BCR, which was quite tricky for many different reasons. The main one, Thor is a wild animal. Another issue, Thor is a wild animal! Before you say, "hold on a minute, Linda, that's the same thing!" Yes, it is but here is what many don't understand. Their goal was to give Thor his life back. That means releasing him back into the wild. They had to make sure that he would still be wary of humans and not become all that comfortable where he would have trouble hunting, protecting himself and doing all the things that Bobcats do.

I would watch the live Thor-cam at night, checking in on him to see how he was. I'd scan BCR's website and Facebook page for updates and even emailed Carole Baskin, Founder and CEO of Big Cat Rescue, who was so wonderful and patient with me, this crazy DJ in Connecticut who fell in love with her bobcat. I got very attached to him. I will admit, watching the release live was bittersweet for me. Part of me really wanted him to stay at Big Cat Rescue where he would be fed and taken care of for the rest of his life. But, I knew that's not what Thor wanted.

Some fellow viewers were voicing their opinions during the live release broadcast, saying that he should be kept at the sanctuary. A big lesson learned here is that we always try to humanize an animals feelings. But, they are not human and that's something that we really have to remember, especially for a wild animal. To truly love someone you must understand them, or at least try. Thor wanted his life back. This is something that Big Cat Rescue fully understands.

Run free, Thor, and have an amazing life. There are thousands of people who are rooting for you!
