Road Trip Eats: Lenny and Joe’s Fish Tale in Madison, CT
After our fun day at Hammonasset Beach in Madison, we decided to stop for dinner. We were in the mood for seafood, and luckily, there was a good place only a couple of minutes from the beach.
Lenny and Joe's Fish Tale is a franchise seafood restaurant that has locations Westbrook, New Haven, and Madison. When we walked in, we were greeted with lots of great smells coming from the kitchen that only made us hungrier. The menu is above the registers and they have specials off to the side.
After a few minutes of studying the menu, we were ready to order. My husband got the fish sandwich with lobster bisque, the kids got hotdogs with fries, and I decided on the hot lobster roll. I haven't had luck with lobster rolls in the past. The only ones I have had were cold and were mixed with mayonnaise, and I am not a fan of those. The hot lobster roll from Lenny and Joe's, however, was delicious! It was hot, had big chunks of lobster, had a generous amount of butter on it, and it was piled on a toasted bun.
The kids loved the fries and my husband was pretty happy with his fish sandwich and lobster bisque. I tried his lobster bisque and it was really good. We also got a bag of their potato chips with some ranch dressing, which we enjoyed too.
Once you head outside, you can get an ice cream from their ice cream stand or the kids can ride the carousel. The charity carousel was nice to see. The kids were very excited that, not only did they get ice cream, but they were able to ride a carousel. This isn't the same kind of carousel that the Danbury Fair has, it doesn't have a floor. So, the animals have chains on them and hang from the top of the carousel. There is also a bench where little kids and parents can sit. The cost of a ticket is $1.50 and 100% of it goes to local charities, so we didn't have a problem letting the kids ride three or four times.
I think this is going to be our "go-to" place whenever we spend the day at Hammonasset Beach. It was a really nice way to end a beach day.
