A rare sight is expected over Connecticut this Sunday night. Space experts say we've got a great view for this weekend's rocket launch.

NASA is reporting that the launch of the next commercial resupply mission to the International Space Station will be visible from right here in Connecticut. The launch will take place this Sunday night at 8:03 p.m. in Virginia. Weather conditions in Connecticut look favorable for a great view.

Currently there are clear skies expected for our area on Sunday night, with only a small chance of rain later in the evening. Clouds aren't the only obstacle to viewing the rocket, however. You'll want to make sure you're positioned in the right direction.

The launch can be seen best if you're facing South/South West. You'll also want to make sure you have a clear view of the horizon without obstacles such as trees and buildings in your field of vision. That way you'll have time to catch the rocket traveling into space before it leaves the atmosphere.

While the rocket will be visible by the naked eye, a good pair of binoculars or a telephoto lens may give you an even more spectacular view. Space.com reports that you may even see a short contrail off of the rocket. Because it is liquid-fueled, the rocket will be traveling a little slower than other spacecraft that have been launched from Virginia in the past.

Will you be checking out the rocket launch on Sunday night? If so, we'd love to see your pictures.
