To make for safe and easy travel in the area this weekend, you'll need to know about the newest detours for bridge work in Derby.

The project started in April of 2014 and is projected to be complete November of 2016, but there is still a major portion of the work that needs to be done, and that means a road closure.

In a press release from the Connecticut Department of Transportation, the Route 34 bridge over the Naugatuck River in Derby will be closed all this weekend. The closure begins at 10 PM. on Friday, September 9 and runs until 5 AM on Monday, September 12.

According to the press release:

The closure is necessary to facilitate the placement of concrete for final portions of the new bridge deck associated with the rehabilitation and widening of Bridge 00947, carrying Route 34 (Main Street) over the Naugatuck River.

The surrounding area is pretty heavily traveled, so you should take note of the detours set up by the DOT. They will have detour signs posted.

A detour will be in place utilizing Route 115 (Derby Avenue), Division Street in Ansonia to cross the Naugatuck River, Pershing Drive and Route 8.

Who ever wants to sit in traffic delays? That said, with this piece of info in mind, it would be worth your time to find an entirely different route over the next few days. Take the time, to save yourself time.
