Have you heard of SantaCon? It's a real thing and it's as festive as it sounds.

From what I can gather from their website, SantaCon.info, this is an event that has grown over the years to include many cities and towns in the United States and around the world. It started in 1994 and is in its 21st year.

So, basically it's a lot of people getting together and dressing up as Santa or some other festive character. Some events are free, but others require you to purchase tickets, probably because they offer other activities during the event.

A lot seem to revolve around alcohol and having bar crawls, but others are more community oriented and are family friendly. So if you are interested in attending one of the SantaCons I would find out which type of even it is.

The website has some guidelines for attending SantaCons and some of them are pretty funny (which they did intentionally):

  • Not all these guidelines should be taken seriously.

  • Some of these guidelines should be taken very seriously. If you can't work out which ones they are then you are not intelligent enough to take part in SantaCon.

  • Do not throw your gifts at anyone, especially if those gifts are raw Brussels sprouts.

  • Read these guidelines one more time.

  • If you have reached this rule, it means you didn't get locked into a loop reading the guidelines over and over again as per the previous rule. You are therefore probably intelligent enough to take part in SantaCon!

These are some of the SantaCons happening around our area:

  • Connecticut
    • Hartford  - December 5
    • New Haven - December 19
    • New London - December 18
    • Stamford - December 5
  • New York
    •  Greenwood Lake - December 12
    • New York City - December 12
    • Poughkeepsie - December 19
