The first $10 million for improvements to I-84 in Danbury have been approved.

Mrs. Large has been taking the backroads from Danbury all the way to Waterbury over the past couple of months as the roadway and bridges are stripped down and repaved.

I-84 between Exits 3 and 8 is going to be stripped, widened, and rebuilt bigger and better over the next five years as part of Gov. Dannell Malloy's infrastructure rehab program "Let's Go CT."

This first round of $10 million of funding released is a drop in the bucket compared to the $4 billion it's estimated to cost to widen and improve I-84 between Danbury and Waterbury.

It's a start though, and after years of inactivity and neglect, it's great to see some attention finally in our little part of the world.

I'm sure when we get older, instead of the "walking two miles, uphill in a snowstorm" fables will be replaced with "I only drove from Exit 3 to Exit 9, and it took me an hour", or "Your mother lived in Southbury, I lived in Brewster, it was impossible to go see her at night."
