There was one thing that 6-year-old William Beyer from Collegeville, Pennsylvania wanted more then anything else: to become a pilot. Thanks to the folks at Sikorsky Aircraft in Connecticut, his wish actually came true.

See, William suffers from Hypoplastic Right Heart Syndrome, which is a serious heart defect. He underwent heart transplant surgery at just 10-months-old, but that never stopped him from having big dreams.

One of his dreams was to become a pilot — enter Sikorsky Aircraft. The company had recently teamed up with the Make-A-Wish Foundation and invited William and his parents to their Statford Headquarters to participate in a "Pilot for a Day" experience.

They even set him up so he would look the part, with a personalized flight suit, a flight jacket covered with all the official badges, and they even presented him with new aviator sunglasses.

His wish finally came true when he sat in the pilots seat, lifted off and took to the sky in a Sikorsky S-76 helicopter.

The folks at Sikorsky also gave him a tour of the facility, let him run one of their simulators, and they even treated him to lunch with some of the pilots.

Kim Smith, who is the Director of Corporate & Community Giving with Make-A-Wish Connecticut had this to say to wthh.com about William's experience:

The Sikorsky team’s involvement to make William’s wish a reality is an inspiration to all of us. They honored William and his family in a way that words can’t describe.  William’s wish day at Sikorsky was a wonderful day filled with incredible moments that gave William and his family unforgettable memories.

William is doing alright these days, however he still must be monitored by doctors, and must be watched closely to prevent his body from rejecting his transplanted heart.
