Well it's not really a zoo, it's Silverman's Farm in Easton, CT. (Only about 1/2 hour from Danbury) and It's been a favorite of mine for almost 25 years.

My wife and I stumbled on it years ago during a Sunday drive, and since my kids were little we've been stopping by Silverman's Farm every year. I was just there this past weekend and the more things change the more Silverman's stays the same.

It's not just an animal farm, there's a big orchard, a farm market, and a florist and greenhouse.

But since I'm such an animal lover, my favorite part of Silverman's is the animal farm. You can see, pet and feed all sorts of unusual animals, including buffalo, llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats, fallow deer, emus, long-horn cattle, and exotic birds.

Right across route 59 is their Farm Stand, where you can pick up fresh made jams, jellies, pies, pastries, and of course freshly picked fruit.

In the fall there's hayrides, pumpkin pick-in and fresh made apple cider.

So if your looking for a fun day trip that's close to home, take the kids and the kids at heart on a trip to the farm. It's a blast !!!!

Here's how to get there from Greater Danbury and New York State:

Take I84 east to Exit 9 (Rt. 25 / Newtown exit). Turn right onto Rt. 25 south. At traffic light turn left and continue on Rt. 25 south, for approx. 10 miles until you reach Rt. 59. Turn right onto Rt. 59 (southbound), and proceed about 4 miles to a stop sign at the intersection of Route 136.
