Police in South Windsor, CT Ask Pokemon Players to be Alert

More full disclosure time. I've never played Pokemon. I don't have kids. I don't play any games on my phone, tablet or even PC. So I really don't fit the profile of this new craze.

But Nintendo sure has a money maker on their hands. According to the Wall Street Journal, Nintendo's stock is going through the roof because of their new app. “Pokémon Go,” was released less than a week ago, and it already ranks up there as one of the most-downloaded and top-grossing smartphone apps.

I guess tons of people have tons of time on their hands to go running around their towns looking for little virtual creatures. If you, like me, are kind of clueless about the craze, here's all the details from the Pokemon.com website.

In a story from nbcconnecticut.com, some police departments have concerns over the game. South Windsor Police Deputy Chief Scott Custer wants Pokemon Go players to be alert while they are playing. Custer told NBC Connecticut:

Officers have encountered people in the public parks after dark. This morning we had a guy kind of walking in the roadway near a water feature down on Ellington Road playing the Pokémon Go game

None of this comes as a surprise to me. We've watched countless videos of people walking into things, falling into fountains, etc, all while texting, so following an app to seek out imaginary creatures pretty much is a recipe for the same.
