What Words Do Nutmeggers and New Yorkers Misspell the Most?

Yesterday, 12-year-old Ananya Vinay from Fresno, CA. won the biggie — the Scripps National Spelling Bee, according to CNN. The winning word she spelled to clinch the week-long competition was “marocain”. What is marocain? Here’s what we get from Google Definitions:

mar·o·cain märəˈkān/ noun: marocain is a dress fabric of ribbed crepe, made of silk or wool or both.

Without question, spell check is my friend, and I’d never be able to survive ANY spelling bee, let alone the Scripps Spelling Bee. It turns out I’m not alone.

In fact, in honor of national spelling bee week, Google put out a list of the most misspelled words in every state. So how did the Empire and Nutmeg States show on this list?

The most misspelled word in New York was "beautiful", and in Connecticut, people predictably had the most trouble with "supercalifragilisticexpialidocious"­­­. CT, that one's understandable. Get it together, New York.
