A Stamford man had to call the police Wednesday morning after a tense, 3-hour standoff ... with his cat.

The CT Post reports that Mohammed Lokman called 911 in the early hours of Wednesday morning, looking for help after an attack by the family cat.

The 8-pound ball of fury had just given birth to a kitten, and maternal instinct took over. Lokman told the police dispatcher that the cat had bitten his leg and chased him and his wife out of the house.

When they tried to re-enter, the cat was ready to strike and wouldn't let them back inside. The couple stayed outside for more than 3 hours before calling 911.  After the 911 call, they were somehow able to get past the Furball of Death and into the house.

In a statement, Stamford police announced that the couple and cat were "advised to stay away from each other for the rest of the night."
