There is no doubt that much of New York State is absolutely gorgeous, but there are some dangerous cities that should be noted including one in the Hudson Valley.

The four websites I researched for this article were, onlyinyourstate.com, movoto.com, roadsnacks.net, and telegraphtoday.com. The criteria to determine the most dangerous cities were taken from Home Security Shield, the Uniform Crime Report, along with local police department crime stats on how many rapes, murders, and robberies took place in each city. Here's what I found.

Buffalo has a crime rate of about 64 to every one thousand people. Your chance of being a victim of a crime in Buffalo is about 1 in 15. The national crime index is 4/100 with 100 being the best. This is not good!

    SCHENECTADY

According to homesecurityshield.org, Schenectady's ranking, when you combine both violent and property crime is #15. Their violent crime rate is 7th in the state. Here is a video of a rude police officer. I think he's pissed because he lives in Schenectady and he still can't spell it.

    SYRACUSE

What's so dangerous about Syracuse? It's the freakin' snow just like Rochester and Buffalo! The good news is their violent crime is decreasing but their property crime rose a bit from last year. Their ranks are 8th highest in the state for violent crime and 12th for property crime. Unless you're getting a free basketball scholarship, avoiding Syracuse may be the way to go.

    ALBANY

That's right, New York's capital, Albany, is the 7th most dangerous city in the state. Albany has a crime rate of about 52 to 1,000 people. Compare that stat to Woodbury in New York State which is considered to be the safest city in NYS with a crime rate of 0.000375 per 1,000 people. Let's take a look at a short video of a capital city police officer.
