The lights are bright, and I don't mean just the ones lighting up your neighborhood. Meteor showers are right around the corner, but will you see them?

November of 2016 will be remembered as really super, Supermoon that is! The world got to experience a record-breaking supermoon, when the Moon reached its closest point to Earth since January 1948. It was the closest full moon so far in the 21st century, and NASA says it’s not going to get any closer until Nov. 25 in the year 2034.

The supermoon on Nov. 14 was particularly close, making it the one to talk about, but we actually are getting three this year. One occurred on Oct.16 and we've got one more to tide us over before the end of the year, and it will coincide with one of the best meteor showers of the year.

According to NASA, the Geminids are one of the best and most reliable meteor showers. They say at its peak, 120 meteors can be seen per hour under perfect conditions. The Geminids meteor shower hits its peak around 9 - 10 p.m. on Tuesday Dec. 13 but supposedly it's highest intensity will be in the early morning hours on Wednesday Dec. 14.

Spoiler alert: the 3rd Supermoon will also happen on Dec. 14 and the report by NASA  says it’s going to almost wipe out the view of the Geminid meteor shower.

Bright moonlight will reduce the visibility of faint meteors five to ten fold, transforming the usually fantastic Geminids into an astronomical footnote. Sky watchers will be lucky to see a dozen Geminids per hour when the shower peaks.

NASA says if you are looking to see the shower you should head somewhere away from city lights to a spot with a wide open view of the sky.

Hey, at least the moon will be REALLY super!
