The United States Army Celebrates 241 Years

Happy birthday to the Army!  Not only is today Flag Day, but it is the 241st birthday of the United States Army.

I love history and I love facts, so learning that today is the birthday for the Army prompted some research. I'm so glad that one of listeners of the station sent us a message to let us know.

Here are some military facts from military.com:

• 30 Presidents served in the Army
  • 24 served during a war
  • 2 Presidents earned the rank of 5-star General - Washington and Eisenhower
  • 1 President earned the Medal of Honor - T. Roosevelt
• The Army was responsible for exploring and mapping America
• Until 1946 the Air Force was part of the Army
  • The official name was the Army Air Corp
