This is the BIG NIGHT. This is the kickoff to the 2018 Winter Olympics. I'm pretty excited about seeing world class athletes do their thing on the international stage.

The competition is contagious, and it's making me want to compete. So let's see who can pass out first. Here are the rules:

1 Drink Every Time:

  • North Korea is mentioned
  • Donald Trump is mentioned
  • An announcers says the word "united" or references unity
  • A country's medal count from any year or combination of years is mentioned

2 Drinks Every Time

  • Russia is mentioned for being barred from the olympics
  • An announcer mis-pronounces a country's name
  • The ceremony goes totally dark to accentuate a light show

3 Drinks Every Time

  • A performer makes a mistake
  • NHL players not being allowed to play in the Olympic games is brought up
  • An announcer mentions their own personal visits to a country being introduced
  • Russia is mentioned in the context of the United States 2016 Election

5 Drinks Every Time

  • An announcer mentions that they want to move to the nation being introduced
  • An announcer starts overtly 'mirin and/or enjoying the eye candy

Finish Your Drink If

  • There are technical difficulties
  • The Olympic Torch is dropped

1 Drink Every Time:

  • An athlete from your country does not place
  • An athlete falls
  • A country's medal count from any previous year or combination of years is mentioned
  • The current medal totals for each country are mentioned
  • Someone cries

2 Drinks Every Time:

  • An athlete from your country earns a bronze medal
  • A TV spot detailing the personal hardships of an athlete is shown
  • An athlete from your country takes the current high score in an event

3 Drinks Every Time:

  • An athlete from your country earns a silver medal
  • An athlete is removed from the Olympic games due to injury
  • An athlete from your country loses the current high score in an event

5 Drinks Every Time:

  • An athlete from your country earns a gold medal
  • An athlete is removed from the Olympic games for non-injury reasons
  • The athlete with the most media coverage during an event does not place

You may wantcheat and skip a sip here and there because the ceremony is three-plus hours long. I'll be playing, will you?
