Two men accused of stealing tools were arrested in Putnam County. Police believe the pair may be linked to other crimes.

Monday, State Police from Brewster were sent by Putnam County 911 for reports of tools being stolen from a vehicle at the intersection of Milltown Road and Old Milltown Road.

The victim told officials that he spotted a white man break a van's window and remove tools from the vehicle. The suspect then entered the passenger side of a gray Honda and fled the scene.

The victim attempted to stop the Honda from leaving but fell to the ground and sustained minor injuries, police say.

With the assistance of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department, the suspect’s vehicle was located on Shore Drive. Both suspects were placed in custody and allegedly found to be in possession of the tools stolen from the van.

Anthony J. Palumbo, 22, of Brewster, was charged with assault, reckless endangerment, grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, felonies, obstructing governmental administration, criminal mischief, criminal possession of a weapon, and possession of burglar’s tools, all misdemeanors.

Patrick D. Holder,22, of Patterson was charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property, felonies, and criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

According to police as they investigated the pair further, a search warrant was executed. The investigation revealed that the suspects were involved in additional criminal activity in the Putnam County area and additional charges are pending.

The suspects were arraigned in the Town of Southeast Justice Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail in lieu of $15,000 cash/bond.
