A Putnam County man is accused of selling drugs to undercover officers.

In June of 2016, a deputy from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, assigned to the department’s narcotics enforcement unit, developed information that a man was selling prescription pills in the area around the Town of Southeast.

The deputy was able to arrange for the purchase of pills from this subject, police say. On Thursday, the officer located and arrested 20-year-old John Power, of Brewster for the sale and possession of Alprazolam, Xanax.

Power was charged with fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, both felonies.

Power was arraigned in Town of Carmel Court and released without bail pending a future court appearance.

If found guilty of the felony charges, Power could face up to seven years in a New York State Correctional Facility and a fine of up to $5,000 for each charge.
