Voting Open Again for UK Polar Research Vessel
I posted earlier about the popularity of the name 'RSS Boaty McBoatface' for an expensive UK ship to be used for polar research. The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) had put a poll up and asked for suggestions. That's when the silly suggestions began rolling in.
Once it started getting around, that this almost $300 million ship could be named Boaty McBoatface, people started going to the site. So many people went to the site that they had to take it down for a little while and fix it so it can handle all the traffic.
Good news though, the site is back up and running! So, you can head over there and cast your vote for your favorite name for the ship. There are quite a few suggestions, and a lot of them are pretty funny, but you can click on the 'Most Loved Overall' tab to see the most popular ones. In case you are wondering, yes, Boaty McBoatface is still number one with over 45,000 votes.
Here are some other names you can vote for:
- RRS Its Bloody Cold Here
- RRS Boaty McBoatface The Return
- RRS Boat
- RRS Boatimus Prime (my personal favorite)
- RRS I Like Big Boats & I Cannot Lie
- RRS Boaty O'Boatface
- RRS I'm The Captain Now
- RRS Big Metal Floaty Thingy-Thing
- RRS Clifford The Big Red Boat
- RRS Boatasaurus Rex
- RRS Boatback Mountain
- RRS Bippity Boppity Floatily Boatily
- RRS I'm So Cold
- RRS Float Like A Butterfly
- RRS Science Tool From Liverpool
- RRS Imonaboat
The voting is going on until April 16, and I'm pretty curious to see what the winning name is, and if NERC actually uses the name. If you would like to see the list or cast your vote visit their website. You can also check out their Twitter account for more info and updates.
My vote is for Boatimus Prime, but I don't know if anything will be able to pull ahead of Boaty McBoatface.
