Watch the Unveiling of the Hatters’ Monument in Danbury, CT
On Monday, June 20, the unveiling of the Hatters' Monument at Danbury, CT's City Hall left the citizens in attendance filled with a sense of pride.
The monument, sculpted by the very talented artist, David Boyajian, represents one of the pinnacles of Danbury's rich history, the Hatting Industry. During the mid 1800s, Danbury established itself as a world renowned center of the hatting trade, and you can read more about that heritage here, in a previous blog written by Ethan Carey.
As you saw in the video above, the newly unveiled Hatters' Monument displays Boyajian's incredible craftsmanship, and depicts a hard-working hat maker of the 20th Century.
The unveiling ceremony was led by master of ceremony, City Councilman, Thomas J. Saadi, with remarks by Monument Committee member, John Jowdy, and Cynthia Merkle, the President and CEO Union Savings Bank.
From there, the gorgeous statue was officially unveiled by the ever-charismatic Mayor of Danbury, Mark Boughton.
Brigid Guertin, and Andrea Gartner capped off the sense of hometown pride with some historical remarks, as they represented Danbury Museum and Historical Society.
All of the city politicians and community members that were involved spoke very highly of the proud heritage that Danbury's past has created.
It was an absolute honor to be in attendance for this proud moment in Danbury's history.
