For a record 25th consecutive year, the Labrador Retriever once again is the most popular dog in the United States.

People love their Labs. So much so, that the popular breed has been ranked #1 again for the 25th consecutive year. It's also the longest reign of any one breed, according to 2015 AKC registration data. As a matter of fact, my last 3 dogs have been Black Labs.

Though the labs' reign as the top dog continued in 2015, there are a few other breeds starting to make a run at the perennial leader.

The French Bulldog has risen 32 spots over the past decade, the Cane Corso moved from 47th to 35th, the Norwegian Elkhound moved from 100th to 88th, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon moved 74th to 66th, the Belgian Malinois moved from 59th to 51st, and the Leonberger moved from 101st to 93rd.
