Were You One of the 50 Million Affected by New Facebook Security Breach?
Friday Facebook stated that they found that approximately 50 million of their users' security had been breached. In a Facebook blog post they report that hackers took advantage of a bug which got into it’s “View As” tool that lets people view how their profiles appear to others. There are things called “access tokens” which is what the social media giant uses to keep you logged in. Somehow hackers were able to get the access tokens, and some people were shut out of their accounts. It seems the hackers were able to see which other apps your account interfaces with.
Law enforcement has been notified, they had suspended the "View As" tool, and the problem is now fixed they say. Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg reports that it’s still unknown who is behind these hacks which forced users to log back onto their accounts.
The Facebook blog post says:
As a result, around 90 million people will now have to log back in to Facebook, or any of their apps that use Facebook Login. After they have logged back in, people will get a notification at the top of their News Feed explaining what happened.
