If your like me twice each week the entire family would sit down in front of the TV and watch American Idol, it was the thing to do and everyone loved it. From the first auditions until the big season finale all eyes were on Idol. It was the #1 show every week by a long shot and the next day on the air everyone was talking about their favorite contestant and why they would be the next American Idol.

That was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. (Who remembers Justin Guarini and co-host Brian Dunkleman ???) Now Idol is gearing up for Season XIV, (that's 14 for those who don't speak roman numeral), and it's hard to strike up a conversation with anyone these days about the show cause they either don't watch anymore, or just don't care.

Granted Idol has only really produced two "Real American Idols"...Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, with runner up honors to Jennifer Hudson and Daughtry who both didn't even make the finals, and runner-runner up honors to Jordin Sparks, Phil Phillips, and Scotty McCreery. Can anyone even name the last Idol winner ???? No it wasn't the ever popular Lee DeWyze (Season 9 winner) or even David Cook or Candice Glover who were Idol winners as well....It was...drum roll please....Caleb Johnson. But Idol was fun, and it was the first of it's kind. And you know you always remember your first !!!!

According to Nielsen annual TV ratings a little over 10 million tuned into last years season finale as opposed to over 36 million who watched the Season 5 finale. That's some kinda drop...Idol has "jumped the shark", that came right after Season 10. Now most shows would give anything to get 10 million viewers, but for Idol it's almost like no one's watching.

Now I know times change, but I miss the days of Clay Aiken, Rubben Studdard, Bo Bice, and Taylor Hicks (soul patrol), and I even miss Simon Cowell. But alas that was then and this is now. So enjoy Season 14, I'll probably will tune in a few times just for old time sake, but it won't be the weekly routine it once was. Will you be watching ????
