Since I’m the resident “Crazy Cat Lady” there’s several subjects that I’m just going to have to research while “blogging”. So, here goes: why is the internet so “cat crazy”? I understand why I am, but why are others who are not cat-people obsessed with cat videos? Don’t tell me that they’re not! Just the other day, I walked into the office and there is Mr. Morning watching a cat video! He said that he had just watched that one video, but as my interrogation continued our co-worker Lou said that Mr. Morning had, in fact, watched many before I walked in. I will tell you that Lou is known to say things to get a rise out of people, it is kind of his job, but I digress, let me continue about why I think that people love cat videos.

My research began on the internet, of course, and I found many articles on why people are drawn to watching cats in all sorts of situations. Several studies suggest that cat-people are introverts while dog-people are extroverts. These studies went on to say that introverts spend more time alone and therefore spend more time on the internet. Why do these introverts watch cat videos? Well….according to the studies, cat-people test high in shyness and if we’re using  the cat-person = introvert formula, introverts minimize their contact with people, feel drained in large crowds, don’t take risks, are described as “quiet”, don’t rush decisions, hate noise and light, have a lot of patience, do their best work in a quiet environment.

Hmmmmmmm……..NONE of that describes me! So if I’m a cat-person how am I not an introvert? After all, somewhere on the internet it’s says that I should be so it must be true!

I came across another study that said dogs evolved alongside humans while cats did not. So, the reason we are so fascinated with cats is because they are the closest thing to living with nature. It’s like living with a tiny Puma.

Hmmmmmmm…….again, huh? Does that mean I have 3 tiny Pumas living in my house?

Yet another study suggests that we are fascinated with cats because we look at them as smaller, cuter humans while cats think of us as big, dumb, non-hostile cats and treat us as kittens treat their mothers.

One more study claims that “Weird is in and cats are weird!”

Here’s what I think: No one knows why we like cat videos and no one really cares why we like cat videos! As long as Nora plays the piano, Maru jumps in boxes and Grumpy cat insults someone there will be plenty of cat videos on the internet to keep us smiling.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to cue up another cat video for Mr. Morning (he can be very persistent!)
