A swimmer was injured and a boater was arrested in connection with a boating accident on Candlewood Lake yesterday afternoon.

According to an article in the Brookfield Patch, the State Environmental Conservation Police have arrested 65-year-old Gary Morrone of Oakville in connection with a boating incident that left a female swimmer in critical condition.

The incident happened near the Squantz Pond State Park boat launch in New Fairfield around 2:15pm on Tuesday. A fellow boater pitched in by rescuing the injured woman who was rushed to Danbury Hospital with serious injuries.

Police say Morrone was attempting to flee the scene in his boat but was stopped and arrested and charged with reckless operation of a vessel, failure to help a collision victim, and failure to immediately notify law enforcement of injuries. He is free on $10,000 bail and will answer to the charges in court on July 3.
