Mr. Morning and I were talking earlier and the topic of a four-day workweek came up. Some places do have four-day workweeks and they feel that productivity and company morale actually went up when they took away that fifth day.

In this Forbes article from September 2014 they spoke to some employers who implemented the four-day workweek. In the article CEO Jason Fried explained why the four-day workweek is so successful for his company.

"In an op-ed in the New York Times, software CEO Jason Fried reported that the 32-hour, four-day workweek his company follows from May through October has resulted in an increase in productivity. “Better work gets done in four days than in five,” he wrote. It makes sense: When there’s less time to work, there’s less time to waste. And when you have a compressed workweek, you tend to focus on what’s important. (Like sleep, quality work happens best when uninterrupted.)"

The article mentions the benefits to the employees, including working mothers. I have a good friend who is a working mother at Ability Beyond and she has a four-day workweek.

This is an option that the employees in her department are given, once they have been there a certain amount of time. So everyone takes turns, not everyone is off on the same day, but she says it is working out and everyone is happier. Plus, it's an extra incentive when they are recruiting and hiring people.

A report from CBS quotes Google's co-founder, Larry Page, saying,

"The idea that everyone needs to work frantically to meet people's needs is just not true," he said. People need to feel busy and productive, he said, but they don't need to work so much to get there. 'Most people like working, but they'd also like to have more time with their family or to pursue their own interests," Page added. "So that would be one way to deal with the problem, is if you had a coordinated way to just reduce the workweek."

What do you think? Would you get more work done and be happier with a four-day workweek? Take the poll and feel free to let us know your thoughts in the comments!
