It's every little kids dream — having a Fire Truck as the family vehicle. Now you could be the first on your block to impress your friends and neighbors when you drive down the street in your very own Danbury Fire Truck.

How is this possible you ask? Well, the folks at govdeals.com are now taking bids on a 2004 Pierce Dash Fire Truck that served the great city of Danbury. Here are all the details as listed on the auction page of the web site:

  • This is a Ladder Truck. The vehicle starts and runs.
  • Detroit Series 60 diesel engine. 8464 hours.
  • Engine is operable.
  • Allison 400c automatic transmission. Transmission is operable.
  • Pierce 95 foot ladder last inspected 4/11/2017. Certification expires 4/11/2018.
  • Minor scratches, dents and dings. No cracked glass.
  • Officers seat has 4 inch tear.
  • Interior equipment includes 2 handlights, SCBA mounts.
  • Assortment of ground ladders and pike poles are included.
  • Odometer reading is not accurate. Vehicle has approximately 60,000 miles.
  • Service manuals are also available.

I wanted to find out a little more about the truck, you know, a good second opinion, so I talked to my friend, Joe Cavo, who was the former Superintendent of Apparatus at the Danbury Fire Department, and here's what he had to say:

It's a good truck, it's used, it spent a lot of years here in Danbury. I know this truck and it just recently passed all it's apparatus tests, so that makes it a little more valuable.

But what about using it as the family truckster since it does seat up to 6 and a few more if you ride on the vehicle?

I don't think it would be right for that soccer mom driving the kids around, but if there's a smaller fire company looking for an aerial device that can still do its job with a little less use, then it's perfect. It's like putting the older horse out to the farm, they can still do the job, just a little lighter lifestyle.

The auction for this truck ends on January 22nd, and right now the current bid is only $10,000. Hey, that's a lot less than a brand new car. Just be ready to reach deep in your pocket when you fill up this bad boy. With a 75 gallon tank, and diesel going for around $3.00 a gallon, you can expect to shell out around $225.00 for a fill-up. By the way, the truck only gets about two miles to the gallon.
