Will there be a new SmackDown in Stamford?

Not exactly a SmackDown event, but the World Wrestling Entertainment empire has grown again to say the least.

In a story from stamfordadvocate.com, World Wrestling Entertainment is now the owner of the AmeriCares headquarters building in Stamford.

The WWE ponied up almost $27,000,000 to buy the building which was being sold as part of the bankruptcy of developer Seaboard Realty. AmeriCares has a long-term lease in the building, and its operations will not be affected.

WWE issued the following statement to The Advocate:

WWE currently occupies 20,000 square feet, and our plan is to occupy an additional 40,000 square feet (existing on the property) within the next year. AmeriCares is under a long-term lease and occupies 90,000 square feet and Squash Alley occupies the remaining 4,000 square feet.

This new acquisition would certainly make for a great television production facility. The WWE had been looking to build one for awhile, now they may have just bought the perfect space for it.
