All of the fish in the ocean are not just there for you, especially here in highly-regulated Connecticut. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Enviromental Protection has just released the species regulations for recreational saltwater fishing for 2024, would you like to know how many Stripers you could catch per day this year?

in all, 23 different saltwater species are listed in the 2024 Connecticut marine Recreational Fisheries Regulations. Leading the list is the ever popular Striped Bass, and the daily creel limit for recreational fishermen is one fish per angler. For the Summer Flounder/Fluke, 3 is the daily limit per angler. During the season, you may keep 2 Tautog/Blackfish early in 2024, 3 between October/November.

Do you love the taste of American Eel? You may snare 25 per day year round for 2024. If you are capable of venturing into the exotic world of crabbing, Connecticut will open up the season for Blue Crab between May 1 - November 30, 2024, with no daily creel limit for recreational crabbers. If you can find a Jonah Crab, the daily creel limit has been set at 50.

The taking of Alewife and Blueback Herring is prohibited from all Connecticut waters, including Long Island Sound for 2024. Federal regulations have been updated for 2024 for a few species very popular with commercial fisheries - Atlantic Cod, Haddock, and Pollock.

All of these regulations apply while you're on any body of water in Connecticut, regardless of where you caught it. Any fish in your possession must meet Connecticut regulations while you are on Connecticut waters, or on the shore. Any fish found to be under, or over-sized, out of season, or over your daily creel limit, must be returned to the water from which it was taken.
