A section of Interstate 95 has reopened after a fatal accident in the early hours of Friday morning (November 26).

According to a press release from the Connecticut State Police, 24-year-old Alfredo Javier Lopez Marrero of Tampa, FL was struck and killed as he and a passenger were standing next to their rental Hyundai Elantra, which has previously been disabled in the left lane of the northbound side of I-85 right near exit 40 in Milford.

Troopers say the accident closed the highway throughout the overnight hours when a Toyota Camry traveling down the highway struck Marrero and his passenger, 20-year-old Nicole Santiago Pizzarro before colliding with the Hyundai and coming to a stop.

Both Pizzarro, who suffered minor injuries, and Marrero were rushed to Yale New Haven Hospital where Marrero was pronounced dead.

The man driving the Camry sustained no apparent injuries.
