An official statement from the company has reported that Macy's will close one-fifth of its stores over the next three years. That works out to be 125 stores across the country. Also, Patch is reporting that eight Connecticut stores are in jeopardy.

There's only one Connecticut Macy's store that is certain to close and it's at the Westfield Meriden Mall in Meriden. Clearance sales have already begun and according to nbcconnecticut.com, will last two to three months.

The fate of the Danbury Fair store is still up in the air. Macy's executives are looking at stores that are underperforming and after the numbers are crunched, an announcement will be made about which Connecticut stores will be closing their doors.

The numbers tell the story about the downfall of brick and mortar stores. According to the US Department of Commerce Statistics, between 2016 and 2017 retail store sales rose by 3.6% while e-commerce sales rose by 16%.
