Get ready Danbury, another Chipotle Mexican Grill is coming soon to Newtown Road/Route 6.

Work is now underway for the newest Chipotle Mexican Grill in Danbury. The new restaurant will be located at 81 Newtown Road, where Friendly's restaurant used to be. Friendly's closed over 23 Northeast locations over a year ago, including the Danbury Newtown Road location.

This will be the third Chipotle location in the Danbury area. They already have locations inside the Danbury Fair Mall, as well as on Mill Plain Road in the Trader Joe's Shopping Plaza.

Sharon Calitro, the Director of Planning and Zoning for the city of Danbury, says that the building and site work is underway, and there is a possibility that the restaurant will open sometime late in the fall. Sharon also said, this location will also feature a different kind of drive-thru. "It's a drive-thru where you order on their app and then drive up and pick up your food, there's no order boards or anything there, so you just do it on your phone".

Founded by Steve Ellis in 1993, Chipotle started with just a single location in Denver, Colorado. According to wikipedia.org, by 1998, that number had grown to close to 500 locations, and by 2015, Chipotle had grown to close to 2000 locations, with a net income of almost 500 million dollars.  Ellis also has local ties, he attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, before launching the Mexican Grill.

Chipotle was born on the belief that there is a connection between how food is prepared, and how it tastes. Their mission statement is 'real is better, better for you, better for people, and better for our planet'.

Chipotle specializes in tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, and salads.
