A New Milford brewery has closed its doors permanently as as result of the COVID-19 pandemic and shutdown. Bad Dream Brewing announced its closure on a Facebook post this morning.

The staff said, "The challenges of running a taproom focused brewery in these uncertain times has put us in a tough position, and after a series of setbacks and much debate, we have made the very hard decision to shut our doors permanently. We are so grateful to have had this opportunity and we can't thank you all enough. Thank you to the Town of New Milford, fellow brewers, industry partners, and most of all our patrons. It was a fun ride and an absolute pleasure to brew for you."

The small brewery and taproom in the Fairfield Plaza Shopping Center on Route 7 had a very unique atmosphere, as the owners were all avid horror book fans. The taproom felt like part brewery and part bookstore, with many shelves of books, particularly books in the horror genre. They even had a Sunday morning book club series where horror novelists would come in to discuss their works. Likewise, their beers had creative, horror themed names such as "Detached Headspace" stout, "Weasel Riot" IPA and "Ominous Basket" Blonde Ale.

Unlike many breweries that switched to a to-go business model when the shutdown first happened, Bad Dream had only opened for takeout a couple of times since March. They will definitely be missed in New Milford. I was a semi-frequent guest there and always enjoyed their beers and very friendly staff. I'm sorry to see them close and I wish them all the best in the future.
