A body found in Cheshire has been identified as an English teacher at the town's High School.

Chron.com states that 48-year-old Megumi Yamamoto, an English teacher at Cheshire High School, was reported missing on Wednesday (October 3) afternoon at 5:17pm. Her lifeless body was found a short time later near Mixville Road and Marion Avenue.

The Cheshire Police Department and the Connecticut State Police’s Major Crimes detectives are working together to find out exactly what happened to Yamamoto. Investigators closed off an area of Marion Avenue as they went door to door interviewing neighbors to determine how the former Cheshire Teacher of the Year ended up in the area where she was found. Despite the ongoing investigation and heavy law enforcement presence, police have told residents that there is no reason to feel that they may be in danger.

Yamamoto owned a home on Mixville Road with her husband. Court documents show that a divorce was pending.

Counselors were on hand today to talk to students about Yamamoto's death and Superintendent of Schools Jeffrey F. Solan urged parents in an email to allow their children to talk about their teacher and provided additional outside resources for support.

Cheshire Board of Education has cancelled an open forum which was scheduled for this evening.
