I LOVE SOUP! It's like a jumbled up buffet of flavors on a spoon.

There are times when I actually get annoyed when we're out for dinner, and there's New England Clam Chowder or Split Pea soup on the menu. Those are my two favorite soups of all time, and my tastebuds start yelling and doing jumping jacks, telling me to order a heaping bowl before dinner. At that point, I become torn, because I am fully aware there's a distinct possibility that it will spoil the desire for my main course. It is then that I become sad, knowing my tastebuds will be deprived of some rich, savory homemade delicacy called soup. Sometimes I'll say to myself, "C'mon fatty, how about just a soup and salad for dinner tonight?!"

If you're on the lookout for some excellent soup in the greater Danbury area, the following are some of my selections:

  • Biksbee's Eatery - Bethel

Biksbee's Eatery at 211 Greenwood Ave. in Bethel scored a 4/5 on Yelp.com. and is a perfect spot to enjoy homemade soup and a sandwich. They get rave reviews for their homemadeI Chicken Soup which comes with large chunks of chicken.

  • Mothership Bakery & Cafe - Danbury

Just recently, I wrote an entire blog about the Mothership, because they'll soon be opening a location on Main St. in Danbury. Everything here is made from scratch. You must try their Butternut Squash Soup and New England Clam Chowder with one of their signature sandwiches on homemade bread, of course.

  • Goulash Place - Danbury

The Goulash Place has been a fixture in downtown Danbury since 1977. This Hungarian restaurant at 41 Highland Ave. is a throwback to an older era chocked full of warmth and friendliness and some of the best Hungarian dishes you've ever tasted. The Hungarian Split Pea soup is to die for but don't stop there. You absolutely must try one of their 3 goulashes. They just don't make restaurants like this anymore.

  • Pho Vietnam Restaurant - Danbury

Pho Vietnam at 56 Padanaram Road receives stellar reviews both on Google and Yelp.com. The Hot & Sour Shrimp Soup is a must and the Pad Thai is extraordinary!

  • Panera Bread - Danbury

Panera Bread with several locations throughout the greater Danbury area is perfect if you're a soup guy like myself. From the website, eatthis.com., that reviews restaurants and their menu items from all over the country comes their Panera Bread soup reviews. The top 2 soups are the Low Fat Vegetarian Black Bean Soup and their Low Fat Vegetarian Garden Vegetable Soup With Pesto.

  • Rosy Tomorrow's - Danbury

Rosy's is yet another restaurant institution at 145 Old Mill Plain Road where the menu is gargantuan. The soups are made from scratch and include their signature Fisherman's Chowder, French Onion, and Chicken Pot Pie soup.
