There are some really good bike trails in our area. My favorite is the Harlem Valley Rail Trail in Amenia, NY.

It's a whole day experience for us, because you bike from the Wassaic train station to Millerton and back again. It's great exercise, but it's also an opportunity to get some nice pictures. There are lots of areas to stop along the way to hydrate and have a snack, take pictures, or just relax and enjoy the outdoors.

I'm not a super fast cyclist, but it's fun to make a day of it. We'll get lunch in Millerton before we start heading back to the car. The trail itself is really nice. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to go this year, but both my husband and I are hoping to bike this rail trail again soon.

The trail itself is paved over old railway beds. The distance from the Wassaic train station to Millerton is a little over 10 miles, so a round trip will be around 21 miles. It's definitely not a short bike trip. As I said above, we make a day of it. There are other sections of the rail trail that are being worked on and, when completed, the trail will be 46.1 miles from the Wassaic train station to Chatham, one way.
