Brookfield is about to embark on a new holiday tradition — its the first tree lighting in the new Brookfield Town Center, and its happening this Saturday (December 1). There's a first time for everything!

The redevelopment project in that area of Brookfield, which started a few years back, is nearing the next phase, and Brookfield's First Selectman Steve Dunn is excited about what lies ahead for the new downtown area:

Hopefully we're getting the funding for phase three this week, and it looks like we should be set to start the completion of phase two in the spring and take the downtown street amenities all the way to the old Hearth Restaurant. It's going to be great, and it's really starting to look like a real downtown, and we're looking forward to holding the first official Brookfield Town Center tree lighting this Saturday.

The tree lighting will take place at 5 pm at the Brookfield Craft Center, and there will be caroling, hot chocolate, and even a visit from Santa.

They will also be accepting donations for the Brookfield Food Pantry. For a list of foods that are needed you can visit brookfieldct.gov.
