A Carmel man was charged with a DWI after police spotted him driving the wrong way on Interstate 90.

Early Monday morning Brendan A. Griffith, 25, from Carmel was spotted driving his Toyota Camry in the eastbound in the westbound lanes on Interstate 90 between Exits B1 and B2 in Berkshire Spurs. Troopers reported to the scene around 2:52 a.m., and allege they observed the wrong way vehicle. Griffith was pulled over before any accidents. After being pulled over police determined that Griffith was highly intoxicated.

Griffith was transported and processed at SP Albany. Police say his blood alcohol content was .023%, nearly three times the legal limit in New York State. Police also determined that the Carmel resident had an active arrest warrant in Massachusetts.

As a result Griffith was charged with fugitive from justice and aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

Griffith was arraigned before the Town of Chatham Court and remanded to the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond.
